KomyoJi Temple (Nio-Mon)

It is believed that the Komyoji Temple was founded by Prince Shotoku.
The Niomon “Gate of the Two Kings”, was built in the Kamakura period (1185-1333), is the only structure in northern Kyoto to be designated a national treasure.
The statue of Niou inside the gate is a national important cultural property.

*Given winter snow, the best time to visit is from spring until autumn.
In autumn, the area and approach to the temple is beautifully coloured with red leaves.
