Gokurakuji Temple

This is a temple of the Shingon Risshu sect, which is rare in Kamakura.
Ninsho, who was a monk in the Kamakura period and founded the temple, was involved in a wide range of social programs, including welfare, medical care, and even the construction of roads and bridges.
It is depicted on old maps that the temple once had large grounds and a hospital facility where treatment was provided and medicines dispensed.
Also, when the Yuan (Mongolian Empire) attacked Japan, Ninsho prayed for the rout of the foreigners at the behest of the Shogunate and the Imperial Court.
