Hassha-jinja Shrine and Kaousya (Parade float)

At Hassha-jinja Shrine, there is a magnificent and splendid float called Kaousya (a city-designated cultural property), which is entirely decorated with nautiluses and Turbo marmoratus shells and is completely inlaid with mother-of-pearl, which is rare in Japan.
The float parades through the Kitagasuya district during the spring festival, which is said to have started as a way to pray for a good harvest and to quell an epidemic.
