Ekingura

Eshi Kinzo, or “Ekin” for short.
A painter of the Kano-school, he originally served the Kirima Family, chief retainers of the Tosa domain, until he was banished from the castle town after being accused of art forgery.
Forced to return to civilian life, Ekin relied on his aunt and settled here in Akaoka, and turned this sake storage house into his studio and painted his works here. At “Ekingura,” we store and preserve the 23 “shibai-e byobu” (theatrical paintings on folding screens) works that were left in our town.
