88 Temples of Shikoku, Temple 28: Dainichiji Temple

An officially designated historic site of Konan city.
Dainichiji temple is said to have been founded by Gyogi about 1200 years ago under the orders of Emperor Seimu, and was restored afterward by Kukai (Kobo Daishi).
It is said that Gyogi made the statue of the Dainichi Buddha, which is 147cm tall and constructed from wooden pieces fitted together, which is considered an important cultural asset of the nation together with the Kannon Bodhisattva statues.
In addition, In the cloister in the back of the temple, there is holy water that heals all kinds of sicknesses.
It has never dried out, even during a drought, and has been chosen as one of the 40 famous waters of Tosa.
