Katsuo-ji

Katsuo-ji

Katsuo-ji Temple covers an impressive 80,000 square meters of land and is famous for its plant life including cherry blossoms, rhododendrons, hydrangeas, and autumn leaves.

The sixth head of the temple prayed for the healing of Emperor Seiwa's illness, which led to his recovery, so the temple was given the name Katsuo-ji Temple as the original kanji meant "the temple that triumphs over kings", but was later renamed to use the kanji for "tail" instead of "king", out of fear.
Even so, the temple is still believed to bring victory to those who visit.

The spacious land around the temple features many daruma dolls dedicated to the temple.
Katsuo-ji Temple is the 23rd temple in the Kansai Kannon Pilgrimage.
