Jindoji Temple

According to "The Origin of Jindoji Temple", this temple was established by Prince Shōtoku, and the statue of Zao Gongen worshipped here is said to have been carved by En no Gyōja, with the help of two child prodigies, while he was practising on this mountain.
The original statue was lost to fire, and the current statue was made during the Muromachi period.
The mountain on which Jindoji Temple sits was known as Mount Kita-Yoshino due to its close relationship with Mount Yoshino in Yamato province, and Jindoji Temple itself prospered due to its status as a dojo for Shugendo mountain asceticism.
Jindoji is also renowned as an ancient temple that houses many cultural treasures.
The main hall was burned to the ground by the armies of the Taira clan.
The current main hall was rebuilt in the Muromachi period, and has been designated as an important cultural property.
