A museum where you can learn about the culture and traditions of Soka

The Soka City Museum of History and Folklore is housed in the former west building of Soka Elementary School, built in 1926 as the first reinforced concrete school building in Saitama Prefecture. It is a spot where you can go deep into the history and culture of Soka City.
Learning from the Great Kanto Earthquake, the building was built to be earthquake- and fire-resistant, which was very advanced for the time.
It's value is recognized today as a registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.
The museum features a wide variety of exhibitions related to the history and folk culture of Soka.
The first exhibition room introduces the history of Soka throughout different eras, including materials related to the Soka-juku post town and Matsuo Basho from the Edo period, and a a dugout canoe from the Jomon period.
The second exhibition room displays tools that showcase the manufacturing process of Soka rice crackers, and folk materials such as farming tools.
In addition, various special exhibitions based on the history and culture of Soka are held each season.
Lectures and hands-on workshops are also held regularly with content that can be enjoyed by both children and adults.
