Kamaishi Railway Line (SL Ginga)
The SL Ginga operates from spring to autumn, running between Hanamaki and Kamaishi on the Kamaishi Line.
The steam train is a restored C58 239.
The train is operated by JR East.
The designs of the train's 4 passenger carriages are based on 'Night on the Galactic Railroad', a novel by the renowned Japanese poet and children's story author Kenji Miyazawa.
The interior has a retro atmosphere. The moment you step on board you feel as if you've just set out on a special journey.
Passengers are presented with proof of boarding to commemorate the trip, with children being gifted special stickers.
