Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium

With a beautiful view of the Sanriku coast, the Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium is the site of fierce sporting contests.
At the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, teams representing countries from around the world will put their pride and honour on the line to fight for the trophy, and there's no more fitting location for those bouts than right here.
The stadium has a max capacity of 16,000 people, and the ground contains Japan's first hybrid grass pitch, in all its verdant splendor.
The stadium was built over the site of the old Unosumai Elementary School and the East Kamaishi Middle School, both of which were destroyed in the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake.
The stadium is a symbol of the great efforts made to restore Kamaishi, and is helping to nurture the sporting culture in Sanriku.
Many parts of the stadium, including the seats, were made with lumber from burnt wood produced by forest fires on the Ozaki Peninsula.
Perhaps the day that the children & young athletes that grew up playing here will represent Japan on the world stage isn't so far away.
There's a lively atmosphere in Kamaishi in anticipation of the Rugby World Cup.
There's Rugby Cafe Kamaishi, where you can hear rumours and news about rugby and the 2019 World Cup.
You can find it on the 2nd floor of Sea Plaza Kamaishi.
If you plan to visit this brand new stadium then maybe think about stopping by at least once.
