A mountain temple of history, faith, and sweeping views

Hashikura Temple is a historic temple of the Shingon sect and is also known as an inner sanctuary of Konpira faith.
According to tradition, it was founded in 828 by Kobo Daishi, also known as Kukai, after receiving a divine message from Konpira Daigongen, and it has a history of more than a thousand years.
Shingon is a major school of esoteric Buddhism established by Kukai, and Hashikura Temple remains one of the places where that faith continues to be practiced.
The term “inner sanctuary” refers to a particularly sacred place within a broader sphere of worship, and Hashikura Temple is closely tied to the Konpira faith that is widely revered in Shikoku.
Set on the mountainside, the temple grounds have a solemn atmosphere and are also loved for their cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in fall.
