A Scenic Drive with Breathtaking Views of Sea and Sky

Angel Line Road is a 10.4-kilometer scenic route that winds from central Obama City to the summit area of Mount Kusayagadake (elevation 619 meters) in Fukui Prefecture.
Once a toll road, it has been open to the public free of charge since 2002, making its panoramic vistas easily accessible to all.

Along the way, several well-maintained observation points provide sweeping views of Wakasa Bay and its dramatic ria coastline.
The summit offers one of the region’s finest vistas—on clear days, you can see as far as Echizen Cape, the Tango Peninsula, and Mount Aoba, also known as the “Mount Fuji of Wakasa.”

Each viewpoint is equipped with benches and signage, allowing travelers to stop and take in the landscape at their own pace.
The road itself winds through mountainous forests, which transform with the seasons: lush greens in spring, vivid reds and golds in autumn.

Angel Line Road is especially popular during these peak seasons, offering a peaceful escape into nature with minimal effort.
However, please note that the road is closed during winter (December to March).
Be sure to check access conditions before planning your visit.
