Tanjoji Temple

Founded in 1193, Tanjoji Temple is situated in the site of the birthplace of Honen Shonin, the founder of the Jodo sect.
The Sanmon Gate (main gate) and the Mikage-do Hall are national important cultural properties.
The “Niju-go Bosatsu Neri Kuyo” (a memorial marching ceremony for the deceased) held on the third Sunday in April each year is a traditional event known as one of the major Neri Kuyo ceremonies in Japan.
