Onsi-Hakone Park

Onsi-Hakone Park is located on the site of the former Hakone Rikyu.
The view from the park is superb, as it is the center of the Hakone sightseeing area and the site of the former imperial villa, offering a panoramic view of Lake Ashinoko, the surrounding Hakone Outer Rim Mountains, the beautiful nature, and the peak of Mt.
The park is also the site of the former Hakone Rikyu, a detached palace that was once located in the center of the park.
From the second-floor balcony, visitors can enjoy a view that is as fine as in the days of the detached palace.
In addition, various events are held in the front garden every year to enjoy the four seasons, such as rose exhibitions, sales, and outdoor tea ceremonies.

History of the Park

The park is located on a peninsula protruding into Lake Ashinoko, called “Togashima.
The Imperial Household Agency planned to build a detached palace here to accommodate the Imperial Family and their guests from abroad.
In 1884, the Imperial Household Agency acquired 163,000 square meters of land centering on Togashima Island, which was densely covered with bamboo grass at the time, and construction of the detached palace began.
