Enshrined at this shrine is “Konohanasakuya-hime” who appears in Japanese mythology.
Legend has it that Konohanasakuya-hime fed her triplets princes with “amazake” (a sweet drink made from fermented rice), and, therefore, the shrine is believed to be the birthplace of refined Japanese sake.
It is said that if a person goes through “Sennenkusu no dodoboku,” a hollow tree made from the 1,200-year-old camphor tree on the precincts of the shrine, while making a wish in his or her mind, the wish will come true.
