It is said that these burial mounds are the tumuli of Ninigi no Mikoto and Konohanasakuya-hime.
Osahozuka is the most massive scallop-shaped burial mound in Japan, and Mesahozuka is the largest keyhole-shaped burial mound in Kyushu.
They are designated by the Imperial Household Agency as presumed imperial tombs.
Only on the second day of the “Kofun Festival” held in November every year, it is exceptionally allowed to enter the grounds for worship.
