The largest torii gate in Japan at 34m high

Since ancient times, many people have walked to the Kumano Hongu Taisha, the first sacred place after the long journey from the ancient capital of Kyoto.
The shrine, once located on the Oyunohara sandbank, was moved to its present location on a hill after a major flood in 1889.
The old site, now surrounded by thick forest, gives a sense of the atmosphere of those days.
In Oyunohara is the largest torii gate in Japan at 34m high.
