Kabuki of Enoshima

Enoshima Benzaiten was revered as a god of peace, luck, and entertainment, and as song and dance became popular, many performing arts works based on Enoshima were created.
Even in the world of kabuki, several famous kyogen plays associated with Enoshima have been performed, including Benten Kozo.
At Nakatsugu Shrine, there are stone lanterns dedicated from the Nakamura-za and Ichimura-za theaters during the Edo period, as well as cherry and plum trees planted by Kabuki actors.
