In the Edo period, with the coming of peace, common people could enjoy overnight trips, and the Pilgrimage to Enoshima, which was close to Edo, became popular.
In addition, people came to believe in Benzaiten with two arms as a "god of entertainment, music, and wisdom." Moreover, people confused Benzaiten with Kichijoten, and Benzaiten came to be worshipped as a god of fortune and treasure, one of the Seven Deities of Good Fortune.
