Hatsumi Festival and Hatsui Festival

Among the many rituals held at shrines, the most important ones, which are rooted in the history of the shrine, are called “reisai (annual celebration)."
The reisai held at Enoshima Shrine include the Hatsumi Festival, held on the first snake day of April, and the Hatsui Grand Festival, held on the first boar day of October.
Since the order to build Enoshima Shrine was issued in the 13th year of the reign of Emperor Kinmei (552), these festivals have been continuously held as an "annual rite" to this day.
