Karakuri shishi-mai Clock

The Karakuri shishi-mai (Lion Dance) Clock is the work of Ms. Minoru Takahashi, a wooden karakuri (mechanized creations) artist from Hachinohe.
This clock tells the time with the sound of eight lion dances clattering their teeth every hour.
It is said that if you get bitten on the head by a lion dance, you will become smarter.
This karakuri lion dance is modeled after the lion dance of Horyosan Ogami Shrine in Hachinohe City.
Ms. Takahashi tried to recreate the lion dance of Ogami Shrine by moving wooden lion heads with a combination of wooden gears and computer programming.
Tamagawa Seiki Co., Ltd., which has a research institute in the city, cooperated with her to carry out the programming.
