Imabari Castle

Imabari Castle was built by Todo Takatora, a military commander in the Sengoku period (1467-1615) and a master of castle construction.
The moat drawing seawater was rare in the country.
The present castle was restored in 1980, and its Honmaru (castle keep), Ninomaru (outer citadel), and Uchibori (inner moat) remain today.
Kuroganegomon-gate is one of them.
Its Koguchi (entrance) was built in the shape of Masugata (square shape), surrounded by stone walls and Yaguramon-gate (turret gate), and iron plates were laid on the gate doors and pillars of Yaguramon-gate to finish up the construction of Kuroganegomon-gate.
