Shishimai of Soni
This is the autumn festival for the guardian god of the 8 sections of Soni Village that is held at the old, historic Kadofusa Shrine that is said to have existed since the reign of the 21st Emperor Yuryaku.
It has a history that has been passed down since around 1720, and the famous "Shishimai of Soni" is presented in October.
The scenes playing out inside a circle surrounded by many viewers gives off a certain unique atmosphere.
Shishimai of Soni, which features a series of Tachi-mai, Kagura-mai, Akuma-harai, San-kagura, Shishi-odori, Tsunagi-shishi, and Ara-mai, is highly rated for the abundance and quality of its types of dancing and was designated as a Nara Prefectural Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 1979.
