Red maple leaves by Lake Momiji(Minowa Dam)

Red maple leaves by Lake Momiji(Minowa Dam)

Completed in 1992, Minowa Dam is the water source of the Kamiina area.
Prior to the dam construction, there was a settlement here called Nagaoka Shinden.
After the dam was completed, local volunteers began planting maple trees little by little each year. Over 10,000 maple trees grow here today, making the area a popular sightseeing destination during the time in fall when the leaves turn red.
The area around Suehiro-hiroba(Square), also known as the “maple leaf tunnel,” is lit up in the night, creating a dreamy atmosphere.

*Best time of year for viewing the autumnal foliage: mid-October until early November
