Tsurumine Hachimangu Shrine

When the ancient Minamoto clan gained control of the Kanto region, this was the first local shrine at which they worshiped.
Their ancestors also had strong faith in it.
When Motohachiman Shrine, the antecedent of Kamakura’s Tsuruoka Hachimangu, was built, the Tsurumine-Hachiman Shrine was known as the Honsha Hachimangu.

A row of pine trees at the site stretching for 760 meters has been maintained to keep the appearance it had in olden times and to make it easier to walk past.
A gingko tree at the shrine is designated as a natural monument by Kanagawa Prefecture.
