Yakumo Town Carved Wooden Bears Museum

You can learn about the history of Yakumo, the birthplace of wood carved bears in Hokkaido, while looking at wood carved bears striking various poses.
The exhibition displays unique wood carved bears, beginning with the Swiss wood carved bear brought in by Yoshichika Tokugawa and the first wood carved bear based on it, the Yakumo wood carved bears, which were wood carved bears striking various poses, famous before the war as the Hokkaido wood carved bears, wood carved bears by Shigeyuki Shibasaki, who has established a unique carving style, Shibasaki carving (or chip carving), that emphasizes the surface that has been chipped (chopped) by the ax, after the war, and the like.
