Sailboat Fishing: A Tradition of the Past
Sailing boat is a feature of Kasumigaura.
It was invented in 1880 and used for Shirauo (Japanese icefish) and Wakasagi (Japanese smelt) fishing in Kasumigaura.
In 1965, it was replaced by trawler, but was revived as a "tourist sailboat."
You can see its appearance annually for a limited period.
In 2018, Hobikisen was selected as a national intangible folk cultural property.
