Community Stories Brought to Life as Large-Scale Public Art

The project IN MY GARDEN began in 2013 as part of the “Art in Housing Complexes” program, a core initiative of the Toride Art Project Office (TAP) in collaboration with the Urban Renaissance Agency (UR).
Drawing on stories and memories contributed by residents of the Togashira Housing Complex, artist Kouo Uehara painted large-scale murals across its walls.
In August 2016, the project was completed with 15 works on 11 apartment buildings, transforming the complex into a landmark of public art and community expression.
