Work Experience: Become the Sumo Museum Director for a Day!

Katsuragi City Sumo Museum “Kehaya-za” will hold a “Museum Director for a Day” event to help children in Katsuragi City learn more about the museum and become more familiar with sumo.

Registration begins at 12:45 p.m.

What You Will Do

Participants will learn about the history of sumo and experience museum duties such as guiding visitors and maintaining and cleaning the dohyo (sumo ring).

They can also wear a sumo wrestler costume and a traditional topknot wig, step onto the dohyo, and experience throwing salt onto the ring.

No previous knowledge of sumo is required. Museum staff will provide support throughout the experience.

Elementary school students who live in Katsuragi City

Capacity

2 participants

If the number of applications exceeds the capacity, participants will be selected by lottery.

Schedule for the Day

12:45 p.m. — Registration begins

1:00 p.m. — Appointment ceremony

  • Greeting from the mayor
  • Appointment as Museum Director for a Day
  • Presentation of business cards and a sash
  • Photography

1:15 p.m. — Museum duties begin

  • If news media are present: exchange business cards and respond to interviews
  • If visitors are present: guide them through the museum

2:00 p.m. — Visit Kehaya-zuka and pay respects

2:30 p.m. — Clean the dohyo

3:00 p.m. — Museum duties end

  • If news media are present: respond to interviews
