Oka-dera Temple

Oka-dera Temple is the 7th temple of the 33 temple Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, and is known as Japan’s first sacred ground for warding off evil.
The temple’s official name is Ryugai-ji (Dragon Lid Temple), originating from the story where an evil “dragon” who tormented Asuka farmers was made to repent by high Buddhist priest Gaien, who sealed it in the pond by using a giant rock as a “lid.”
