Nikko Suginamiki Kaido (Nikko Cedar Avenue)

The Nikko Cedar Avenue extends across Nikko Street, Reiheishi Street, and Aizunishi Street.
It is 37km long and includes about 12,000 cedar trees that densely line both sides of the path.
Matsudaira Masatsuna, a loyal retainer of the Tokugawa family, planted more than 20,000 cedar trees over more than 20 years, and donated them to line the path to Nikko Toshogu Shrine on the 33rd anniversary of Tokugawa Ieyasu's death.
This is the only cedar avenue in Japan today that has reached a height of about 30m.
It has been doubly designated as a special historic site as well as a special natural monument, and was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records in 1991 as the world's longest tree-lined avenue.
