Isazawa no Kubozakura

This Edo-higanzakura is said to be 1,200 years old and was designated as a national natural treasure.
It is also known as “Yontan-zakura” because its branches reached as far as 4 tan (about 4,000 square meters) in the Edo period (1603–1863).
It is related to a tragic love story between Sakanoue Tamuramaro and Otama, who was a daughter of the powerful Kubo family in this area.
