Hieizan Enryaku-ji Temple

Enryaku-ji Temple has a history of 1200 years and is often considered the mother temple of Japanese Buddhism.
Enryaku-ji Temple was registered under the cultural category of UNESCO Word Heritage Sites in 1994.
The temple has extensive precincts covering a side of Mt. Hiei with over a hundred structures.
On the temple’s precincts is also a lodging facility called Enryaku-ji Kaikan, where visitors can lodge or experience sutra-copying and Zen meditation.
