Maiwai Dyeing

A traditional craftwork designated so by Chiba Prefecture.
Maiwai was made as a festive dress to celebrate a big catch of fish and said to have originated on the Boso Peninsula. It is colorful, with cranes, turtles, Ebisu (the god of fishing), and Daikoku (the god of wealth) pictured on it.
In recent times, it is worn as a hanten short coat for rituals.
There is also a hands-on experience program to learn the technique of Maiwai dyeing.
