Kuga Memorial Museum

Surrounded by greenery, this museum was built in 1979 (Showa 54) as a private art museum by the late Mr. Ichio Kuga, who is known as the person who introduced the Western-style painter Hanjiro Sakamoto, who painted such works as the “Faint Sunlight” and the "Three Grazing Horses."
After Mr. Kuga passed away, the building was donated to the town and renamed the Kuga Memorial Museum within the Sue Town Municipal Art Center, which it remains today.
The exhibition rooms on the first floor hold various special exhibitions, while the permanent exhibition rooms on the second floor display Sue pottery produced in porcelain kilns used by the Fukuoka domain, and a collection of paintings.
You can forget about time and just relax and enjoy the art.
