Michinoku Coastal Trail

The 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami caused severe devastation along the Pacific coast of Tohoku.
The Michinoku Coastal Trail, a long trail of more than 1,000 km, a symbol of the reconstruction effort, connects Kabushima in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture to Matsukawaura in Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture.
Traveling on foot through various places along the trail, including coastlines and villages with diverse terrains, you can appreciate the local people and nature, as well as the history and culture of the area.
The warm hospitality of these communities is another major attraction of this trail.
At Kabushima in Hachinohe, the northernmost point of the Michinoku Coastal Trail, there is a monument marking the trailhead/trail's end.
