Akenobe Mine, once Japan’s leading tin mine and now designated as a Japan Heritage site

Once home to Japan’s largest tin mine, Akenobe Mine (Akenobe Kozan) flourished as a major producer of tin.
Inside the mine tunnels, the temperature stays around 12–13°C throughout the year, pleasantly cool even in summer.
You can join guided tours that take you through part of the tunnels while listening to explanations from a guide (advance reservation required).
There is also a Sunday tunnel tour, held every Sunday from April until the first Sunday in November, which you can join without a reservation.
You can take a leisurely stroll through the town, where streetscapes from the early Showa period remain much as they were.
Let the nostalgic atmosphere carry your thoughts back in time.

In addition, from April to November the Ichien Train operates on a regular schedule once a month (with additional operating days in May, July, and August).
This cute little “Ichien Train” rattles along a 150-meter track.
Be sure to take the opportunity to ride it!
