Shiraiwa River Dam

The Shirakawa River Dam is a composite dam which combines a rock-fill dam and a concrete dam. It was built in the Tateyama Shiraiwa area to control floodwaters and regulate water flow in the Shiraiwa River.
From long ago this area was repeatedly effected by flood and drought. Since being completed in October, 1974, this dam has done what it was built to do; control floodwaters, replenish water supplies for unspecified use, supply tap water, and protect the livelihood of people living in the Shiraiwa River Basin.
The dam has a total reservoir capacity of approximately 2.2 million ㎥, with approximately 1.2 million ㎥ of that capacity being able to be controlled during a flood.
