Heda Shipbuilding and Local Archives Museum・Suruga Bay Deep Sea Creature Museum

Heda Shipbuilding and Local Archives Museum and Suruga Bay Deep Sea Creature Museum are located at the tip of Cape Mihama in Heda.
The Heda Shipbuilding and Local Archives Museum exhibits historical material related to the construction process of Heda, Japan’s first full-blown, Western-style sailing ship that was built by cooperation between Russians and shipwrights of Heda around the end of Japan’s feudal period.
The museum also introduces the history of Japan-Russia diplomacy.
The attached Suruga Bay Deep Sea Creature Museum offers fun opportunities to learn about deep-sea creatures, which are hard to spot in Japan except in places like the deep waters around the Heda district of Numazu city.
