Koyosan Bokuun-ji Temple

Chichibu 34 Kannon Pilgrimage – Temple No.6

Also known as Oginodo, Koyosan Bokuun-ji enshrines a statue of Sho-Kannon (Sacred Kannon) that is said to have once stood on the summit of Mt. Buko.
The temple houses a number of rare and intriguing treasures, including a Seiryo-ji style statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, illustrated origin scrolls, and even a tooth said to have belonged to yamanba, a fearsome old woman from Japanese mountain folklore.

Set on a hillside, the temple offers excellent views, including a fine view of Mt. Buko.
Its paper-cut-style goshuin (temple stamp) features the viburnum—the temple’s symbolic flower—that blooms in the grounds.

Koyosan Bokuun-ji is Temple No.6 on the Chichibu 34 Kannon Pilgrimage, a roughly 100-km route linking 34 temples along a nature-rich pilgrimage trail.
