Nakahechi was once the most frequently used

The Kumano Kodo, pilgrimage route to the three mountains of Kumano, has many different routes, of which Nakahechi was once the most frequently used.
It takes two to three days to walk from Takijiri Oji, the beginning of the sacred area of the three Kumano mountains, to Hongu Taisha.
There are many places of interest along the way.
The 7km beginner's route from Hashinmon Oji, the entrance to the sacred area of Kumano Hongu Taisha, to Hongu Taisha follows an ancient stone paved path and offers beautiful views of terraced rice fields and tea plantations.
