Matosama Rock

Under the surface of the limpid Murokubo River lies a monolith popularly called “Tekisan” or “Matosama,” meaning “target” (the monolith has white, triple-ring patterns surrounding one black spot, resembling a target).
Legend has it that Minamoto-no-yoritomo (1147-1199), who was the founder and the first shogun of the Kamakura shogunate of Japan, trained himself in martial arts in this area.
