Shiofune Kannon-ji Temple

According to legend, Shiofune Kannon-ji Temple is said to have opened when Yao Bikuni set a Kannon statue there around 645-650. Yao Bikuni was a nun in the “legend of longevity” of the Wakasa area in Japan, and it is said that she lived to be 800 years old after she ate mermaid meat.
This site is surrounded by small hills and is shaped like a ship. So it is believed that the Shiofune was named after a ship called Kuzei no Fune in Buddhist terms, which was a ship that Buddha used to carry people that he saved from suffering and to send them to the shores of enlightenment.
