Kitaro-chaya (Kitaro Cafe)

"Kitaro-chaya" is a retro wooden building that was built more than 50 years ago in front of Jindaiji Temple, which is surrounded in nature.
It is a place where you can immerse yourself into the world of "Gegege no Kitaro"; Japan's most famous monster manga.
"GeGeGe no Kitaro” is a story that revolves around Kitaro, the last survivor of a ghost family, who combats evil spirits and monsters to create a peaceful world where "yōkai" (supernatural monsters, spirits, and demons in Japanese folklore) and humans can coexist. It is a long-beloved story amongst the Japanese.
The underlying theme of "GeGeGe no Kitaro” lies in the idea of "coexistence with nature" - not only between humans and yōkai, but also with birds and animals and all other living creatures of the earth.
Chofu is the city where the creator of "GeGeGe no Kitaro”, Mr. Shigeru Mizuki, spent over 50 years drawing manga, and is therefore known as "the place where Mizuki's mangas were born".
A "Mizuki World" has been established here; a place that can rightfully be thought of as his second home town.
Inside the shop, which is fashioned after the "dagashi-ya" (traditional Japanese corner shops), products are on sale that are based upon yōkai and the characters of "GeGeGe no Kitaro”.
There is also a "Yōkai Gallery" which features original drawings done by Mr. Shigeru Mizuki and yōkai figurines.
Moreover, in the tea room, which is imbued with a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of Shōwa period Japan, there are sweets available based upon yōkai characters and unique dishes made from carefully selected ingredients. We look forward to greeting and serving you.
