Fujisan Hongu Sengentaisha Shrine
This is the head shrine of the many Sengen-jinja shrines throughout Japan, and its history dates back more than 1,200 years.
The shrine is dedicated to Konohanasakuyahime no Mikoto, who is renowned for her beauty and chastity and is worshiped nationwide as the guardian deity for fire prevention, family happiness, child-giving, and easy delivery, as well as for navigation, fishing, and agriculture.
Cherry trees are considered “particularly sacred trees,” and as many as 500 cherry trees are dedicated within the temple grounds.
