Takizawa Honjin

Takizawa Honjin is a building where Aizu domain’s lords rested on the way to attend the shogun in Edo or when surveying the domain.
During the Boshin War, Aizu’s lord Matsudaira Katamori commanded his military from this honjin (literally main camp), and the Byakkotai teenage samurai unit was dispatched from here as well.
The building still retains sword cuts and bullet holes from the war.
It is a national historic site and nationally designated important cultural property.
