Kawagoe Hikawa jinja Shrine

Kawagoe Hikawa jinja Shrine is believed to have been built about 1500 years ago.
Since Ota Michizane and his son Dokan built Kawagoe Castle, generations of feudal lords of the Kawagoe domain worshipped this shrine as the guardian of the castle town.
The shrine is dedicated to the god couple Ashinazuchi-no-mikoto and Tenazuchi-no-mikoto, their daughter Kushinadahime-no-mikoto, her husband Susano’o-no-mikoto, and the latter couple’s son Onamuchi-no-mikoto.
Enshrining two couples of gods, Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine has been worshipped for many ages as a place to pray for matrimonial happiness and matchmaking.
On the shrine’s precincts is Hikawa Kaikan, which is the only ceremonial hall in Saitama prefecture purposed specifically for weddings that is annexed to a shrine.
