Aoi-Jinja Shrine
Aoi-Jinja Shrine is an old shrine believed to have been built During the Heian period (794–1185) and listed in the Engishiki Jinmyocho list of shrines.
It is also called by the name, “Aonuma-Jinja,” because it worships a deity of a large, blue swamp (“numa”) that existed nearby a long time ago.
The shrine holds local, traditional performances at its annual festival held every year on the first Sunday of October.
These performances include the Aoi-Jinja Lion Dance (City-designated intangible folk-culture asset of Inagi), which has been passed down since the Edo period (1603-1868), and the Aoi-bayashi musical performance.
