Taishoroman Street

Taishoroman Street, formerly called “Kawagoe Ginza-dori shopping district,” is a historic shopping district lined up with traditional, storehouse-style buildings and old, Western buildings. Urban design approaches to create a spacious shopping district retaining the townscape of the Taisho period (1912-1926) began in 1995, removing the arcade roof and relocating utility wiring from overhead to underground. As a result, the area was reborn as a shopping district with a good, old, Taisho-period atmosphere. Along the stone-paved street are picturesque, long-standing shops and cafés, making the spot perfect for taking commemorative photos. The district is also frequently used for filming television dramas and movies.
