Renkeiji Temple

Renkeiji Temple is said to have been built in 1549.
It was built by the eponymous Renkeidaishi for the purpose of praying for peace and providing a serene space for the people. In the Edo period (1603-1868), the temple was given a high rank as the government’s official facility for training priests and was allowed to use the Tokugawa family crest (“aoi no mon”).
The red “Obinzuru-sama” worshipped at the front of the prayer space has been believed for ages to cure diseases of those who touch it.
The bonsho bell hanging above a platform was made in 1695. It continues to tell the time every day at 3 p.m.
